Day 12

1. Provide an overview of your project/artifact. ( For example, I designed a video game using Scratch programming where the player, or snowman, has to catch 5 snowflakes and avoid the flying flames. ) I am making a “What Number are You?” quiz on html, css, and javascript. The questions are puns on the types of numbers (ie, are you a rational thinker?) 2. What did you plan to learn from your project? Did you meet this target? I planned to learn a lot about HTML, CSS. I have met this target. 3. What computer science concepts did you use in your project? (Variables, loops, conditional statements, functions, lists/arrays, methods, etc.)    Functions, variables     4. What computational thinking principles did you use in your project? (Abstraction, algorithms, correctness, efficiency, iteration or loop statements, variables, etc.) I’ve used algorithms to make my quiz. The website makes the user go through a set of steps to achieve a result. ...

Day 11

What have you already done with computing and technology? Include what you did these last two weeks. These past two weeks I’ve made a battleship game on Python, and a maze with Python Turtle Graphics. I also learned some Java and Cybersecurity. Previously I’ve made a game on Unity, a bag on lilypad, and projects on Scratch Describe your Interest in Computing and Technology. I could see myself working with computing and technology as a future career Describe ANY leadership positions you have had in school and/or community. I’ve been in student council, where I got to help with the coordination and advertising of school assemblies, and participate in Project Unify. Describe your career goals in detail. What do you want to accomplish? Why is your career goal important to you? I want a career that parallels my interests and hobbies, and pays well. My career goals are important to me because I’ll be working for most of my life, and I want to enjoy it. Define a problem that is cur...

Day 10

1. Provide an overview of your project/artifact. ( For example, I designed a video game using Scratch programming where the player, or snowman, has to catch 5 snowflakes and avoid the flying flames. I made a maze on python that interacted with turtle graphics. If the sprite goes out of range, it will be moved back to its starting point, if the sprite reaches its target, win text will be displayed in the turtle. 2. What did you plan to learn from your project? Did you meet this target? I was hoping to learn more about turtle graphics, and keyboard input. I felt like I reached my target. 3. What computer science concepts did you use in your project? (Variables, loops, conditional statements, functions, lists/arrays, methods, etc.)        The computer science concepts I used were functions, variables, a void and for loop, conditional statements, and an object. 4. What computational thinking principles did you use in your project? (Abstraction...

Day 7

Day 7 6/13 Define a problem that is currently a problem in the world. How could technology solve the problem? A current problem in the world is pollution and rapid water usage. Technology could help solve the problem because with the decreased use of fossil fuels, versus harnessing solar and electrical energy, less Carbon Monoxide would be polluted into our atmosphere. Also, more efficient ways to recycle could help prevent pollution on land and seas.Technology could help the recycling and energy fields evolve.

Day 6: 6/11

Describe ANY leadership positions you have had in school and/or community. Continue answering: --What have you already done with computing and technology? (Can include what you are currently doing) --Describe your Interest in Computing and Technology. Why you came to this camp? What you want to get out of it? What have you already accomplished in computing and technology? What might you do with computing and technology in the future? I was in a leadership position when I participated in student console in middle school. I have done a lot at ywic. Once I made a game in Unity, and I’ve used arduino several times to create a music-playing bag on lilypad, and a “piano” on an uno board. I’ve used python and java on the platform repl.it to code 21 sticks, and battleship. I’ve many games on Scratch,  . I came to this camp to learn about cybersecurity, and have the opportunity to create a project. I’d like to learn more about the importance of computer structures, and malware. I’ve ...

Day 5: 6/8

Day 5 Describe your Interest in Computing and Technology. For example, you can answer the following questions: Why you came to this camp? What you want to get out of it? What have you already accomplished in computing and technology? What might you do with computing and technology in the future?  I came to this camp to learn about computer science in a fun environment. From this camp, I wanted to learn more about Java, and have the opportunity to create a project. I've accomplished a lot in computer science through YWiC. I've used a lot of platforms and languages to make programs and games, and I've learned a bit about cyber security and robots. Computing and technology are useful skills, so probably any career I go in to will use them.

Day 4

Day 4 What have you already done with computing and technology? ( Continue to add to this question throughout the week) Throughout this week I have learned about arrays and generated an array with random numbers. Today made a string and identified different components of it. I also learned about for and while loops. I also started making “Battleship” on python.

Day 3

Pictures! Add pictures of your builds. I want you all to think of an accomplishment in computer science you've experienced. This could be getting your LilyPad to light up yesterday, if you remembered what a computer science core concept meant, or if you learned a new programming language! Mine is gaining the confidence in my computer science abilities to commit to a computer science degree. If you haven't had that much experience in computer science that's okay, I still want you to write about an achievement or something that excited you about computer science from yesterday and today's lessons and why! Today, I was really excited when I learned how to make an array. Array’s have always been challenging for me, so I was really happy about making one in Python and Java. I also want you to write about a non-computer science related accomplishment. Maybe you finished a super long book, or maybe you scored a point for your sports team! Mine is t...
